Get Started

If you’re an ex-Iris user, then you may still have all of the kit, and it may even still be installed. You can now license the SystronicsRF Control System software, which enables you to bring all of your devices back to life. The software will also control the more modern ZigBee devices, and Z-Wave devices.

Just power up the Pi, and you will have a working system within a few minutes.

The operating system and the control system software is all installed automatically, so you simply switch on the Raspberry Pi, and everything you need is ready to go.

Assemble your own Raspberry Pi

Buy the separate components for the Raspberry Pi assembly, all of which are available on Amazon, and assemble it yourself.

You will need a Raspberry Pi 3B+, a suitable enclosure / case for the Raspberry Pi, a 5 Volt x 2.5 Amp power supply with a micro USB connector, and a micro SD card.

We recommend the use of a good quality case, typically cast aluminum with good cooling. The cooling can be either fan assisted, with heat sinks fitted to the components, or by conduction out to the case.

As a minimum, a 16GB Class 10 Micro SD Card should be used, although 32GB is currently the best value for money.

Once you have assembled your Raspberry Pi, and have purchased a license for a copy of the SystronicsRF Control System Software, you can flash the SD card with the core software, and register your new Control System online.

Onscreen guides are provided for this purpose.

Network Adapters

Select a setup that meets your requirements

You will also need one or more USB Network Adapters. You will need one adapter for the older Iris Gen 1 ZigBee devices, one for the modern ZigBee devices, and another for Z-Wave devices.

The Network Adapters that are currently supported by the Control System are the Digi XStick XU-Z11 for ZigBee and the Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 for Z-Wave. Both of these are USB Adapters, which can be plugged directly into the Raspberry Pi.

  • If you have 1st Generation Iris ZigBee devices, then you will need a Digi XStick XU-Z11 network adapter.
  • If you also have more modern ZigBee devices, which includes 2nd and 3rd Generation Iris ZigBee devices, then you will need a second Digi XStick XU-Z11 network adapter.
  • If you have Z-Wave devices, then you will need an Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 adapter.
